How much does it cost to set up Baby Classes?
Jul 30, 2024Deciding to set up your own baby classes is a big decision, I get it, because I've done it but my question to you today is if it's your dream, on your vision board ....... what's stopping you?
- Is it money?
- Can you afford to get started?
- Do you even know how much it will cost?
- Will it be hundreds, thousands or tens of thousands of pounds?
- Do you wish you could just get a straight answer about how much it will cost without having to endlessly scroll, google or fill in franchise enquiry forms?
Essentially you've got 3 options to get your classes up and running -
- Invest in Training 🙋♀️
- Invest in a Franchise/Licence
- Do it 100% alone
Obviously I'd love you to train with me here at Nurture Sounds but I promise to be as impartial as I can and for full transparency I started Jellybeans Music entirely alone with no support and little money and I have been a franchisee so I really can say I've been there, done that, worn the t-shirt etc!
Let's start with how much money do you have to invest?
It will be a financial investment regardless of whether you do it 100% alone, invest in training or a franchise, it is impossible to do it for zero pounds btw.
So let's look in more detail at your options
Invest in Training.
This is a new option in this industry and I'll be honest, there is very little available if you don't want to run early years music education classes - that's why I decided to write my courses - I'm always thinking of the me all those years ago, what would she have wanted!
Nurture Sounds offers the first externally accredited level 3 diploma qualification courses for both prospective Baby Music and themed multi sensory Baby Development class owners.
All Nurture Sounds training courses are currently £497 with no ongoing fees or royalty charges and there are payment plans available so you can spread the cost over 6 months. That price also currently includes either a TouchNeeds demo doll or a Nurture Sounds Sensory Parachute!
But you will need to buy starter kit (there is clear guidance on what you need to get started & even a manufacturer discount code) Public Liability Insurance (I have partnered with Westminster Insurance to get a discounted rate), The Music Licence , additional music and create your brand so I'd budget an additional minimum of £600.
Invest in a Franchise/Licence
Have a google and you'll see there is a huge range of baby class franchises/licences available and a big range of initial investment costs. I quickly googled & found it ranged from £1500 to £14000 with the majority around £7k.
If you choose this route you are committing to that brand for a period of time, often 5 years and some do have clauses that you need to continue paying a management fee even if you are no longer running classes for any reason or you have minimum number of classes per week you must deliver so read the small print before you sign.
Franchises/licences will also often either charge ongoing royalty fees (either a percentage of turnover or fixed fee per month) for the duration of your franchise or annual licence renewal fee plus a marketing fee, so again make sure you know all the costs before you commit. But remember you will probably get a starter kit so you shouldn't need to buy anything else and branding, insurance and music may be included in the price.
Do it 100% alone
This will always be the cheapest option on paper but even if you are dreaming of creating the most stripped back classes in the world, using no prerecorded music, you will still need to pay up front for Public Liability Insurance (£130ish annually) ICO (£40 annually), DBS (£40 annually) and buy your demo doll (£65) kit and mats so I'd estimate a minimum of £500 and that doesn't take into account your time.
There is an entry route into this amazing industry for everyone, just do your homework and choose the one that resonates with you and which you can afford
